MID-ATLANTIC HOME & GARDEN SHOW MARCH 1-3
Tidewater Builders Association presents the 28th Mid-Atlantic Home & Garden Show, “Sweet Inspirations.” It is one of the largest consumer shows in the region and is part of The National Home and Garden Show Series by Premier Home Shows, in partnership with Better Homes & Gardens magazine.
The event features 500 exhibitors of products and services for inside and outside the home – from crawl spaces to roofing and everything between. Celebrity headliners present programs on creating curb appeal and tips for baking to perfection.
Curb appeal tips from HGTV’s John Gidding: Does your home need a little TLC on the outside? Join HGTV’s Curb Appeal: The Block and Designed to Sell host John Gidding as he shares tips on how to increase your home’s curb appeal. Gidding tackles the subject twice a day on Saturday, March 2 at noon and 3:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 3 at noon and 4 p.m. and answers audience questions.
Tiny Temptations Cake Competition with Sweet Genius TV host Ron Ben-Israel: Sponsored by the Culinary Institute of Virginia, ECPI and Hampton Roads Magazine, join Food Network’s Sweet Genius host Ron Ben-Israel on Sunday, March 3 at 1 p.m. Just as the master chefs do on TV, Ben-Israel tests the creativity, ingenuity and imagination of local contestants as they face challenges and secret ingredients. Israel, a master pastry chef, hosts a sugar-packed competition series where four of America’s premier pastry chefs compete against one another through three rounds of challenges judged by Ben-Israel. Ben-Israel announces the local winner from the main stage during his presentation at 2 p.m. The competitors are:

The Ultimate Dog Show: K-9s in Flight’s Ultimate K9 Sports Show is back by popular demand. The show offers the best in high-flying, acrobatic, wholesome family entertainment with a high-energy, up-close-and-personal interactive format. The show includes up to six world-class K9 athletes showcasing the top K9 sports, including K9 dock diving, high jumping and Frisbee. Aside from the dynamic entertainment value, the show also educates the importance of pet adoption, exercise, nutrition and the special bond between humans and dogs. Amazingly, all of K9s in Flight’s stars have been rescued or adopted from shelters all over the country.
The New Home Expo: Presented by The Hampton Roads REALTORS® Association’s New Homes Council, this show within the show presents displays from new-home communities, home builders and presentations on the home-buying process. Local REALTORS® get in free on Friday, REALTORS® Day.

Dreaming of Design Matchmaker Challenge: Back by popular demand and with a new twist, four finalists are chosen from the top online vote-getters to team up with a professional designer to bring their creation to life in a 10-by-14-foot showroom, using Value City Furniture. The winner receives a $2,500 Value City Furniture shopping spree, which will be announced on the stage at noon. Saturday, March 2, before John Gidding’s presentation. Match-Maker Designers are Shelley Streetman, Monique Rizzo, Tawanda Mayo, and Elizabeth Higginbotham.

The 28th Mid-Atlantic Home & Garden Show is held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center March 1-3, 2013. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, March 1-2; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 3. Admission is $10 adults; $3 ages 6-12; and free ages under 6. Active-duty and retired military and senior citizens (ages 62 and up) receive a $1 discount. Parking is free.
